Tonight I was browsing the Aussie Imagine Cup website. Stumbling through the FAQ the following caught my eye:
Q11: Can I enter the SDC on my own? No, the Software Design Challenge is designed for teams of 2 to 4 people. The team does not have to be made up of pure technical students and can include business, art or other disciplines who can add value to the entry with their own ideas and expertise.
Now while I would have loved an extra team-mate last year it unfortunately just wasn't possible. My ad-hoc, friendly, informative presentation style was outranked by teams of 4 with printed t-shirts, glossly brochures and live musical performances. I'm all for bigger teams, after all it's pretty clear that 4 talented people of different skills are almost certainly better than one, but I am curious why this has been made an offical rule.
I won't be entering this year, but its not because of the above, it's one of the other rules, you know? something about being a student?
